11 Things To Do In Bohol, Philippines

Bohol province is one of the famous travel destinations in the Philippines located in the Central Visayas Region.  The chocolate hills, Tarsier watching, floating restaurant and white sand beaches are among the favorite attractions in the country for both local and foreign tourists.

Bohol remains its natural beauty after suffering from a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake two years ago causing damage in several buildings, roads, bridges and churches,  with 57 fatalities and around 104 were injured considered as among the deadliest earthquake in the Philippines.

Bohol Escapade …

My family and I had a great summer getaway in Bohol last May 2015. We stayed there for one week to attend a Family Reunion. It has been a tradition for us to travel Bohol once a year especially on their feast day. Bohol is known to be as one of the provinces in the Philippines got the longest feast celebration.

During our vacation in Bohol, we visited their famous attractions like their magnificent white sand beaches, beautiful Islands, enchanting cave, historical places, old  stone churches, amazing hills, forest, endangered specie and their unique restaurants. We rented a van and were able to explore the beautiful places in Bohol in just one day.

11 things to do in Bohol:

Sagbayan Peak

It reminds me of Dahilayan Adventure Park in Bukidnon .  You can enjoy picture taking at their gigantic statue of different animals, Disney and cartoon characters, small kid’s town and their overlooking views facing the wonderful chocolate hills. It is located in the town of Sagbayan.

Chocolate Hills

 

The province of Bohol got its popularity in domestic tourism because of these numerous and unique hills in Carmen. It is considered as the gem of the philippines. The vegetation of the hills is covered only in green grass that turns into brown in dry season.

Tarsier Conservation Area

 

The sanctuary of Philippine tarsiers is one of the best attractions in Bohol for tourist aside from Chocolate Hills. Tarsier is a shy nocturnal type of animal and considered as the smallest monkey in the world which can only be encountered in the Philippines.

Man-made Forest

The first and only man-made forest that is well-preserved in the Philippines. This is part of the road that can be accessed by van and buses going to different tourist destinations in Bohol. It is composed of Mahogany trees densely stretched approximately 2 kilometers along the towns in Bohol –Bilar and Loboc. You may feel chilly with its cool breeze once you enter the cave-like forest.

Before heading to Loboc River Floating restaurant, don’t miss their adventure park that offers different extreme rides like Cable car and Zip Line at the very affordable price. You would surely appreciate the natural beauty of Loboc River and the forest.

The Floating Restaurant

Another tourist attraction in Bohol and happens to be the best and popular restaurant in town is the Loboc River Cruise Restaurant. Both foreign and domestic tourists would enjoy the buffet style food, sightseeing at their scenic views, serenaded by the boholanos singers and child performers while cruising on the clean and green river.

Hinagdanan Cave

Discover their enchanting underground blue lagoon and beautiful rock formations inside Hinagdanan cave located in Panglao Island, Bohol Province. The cave is made from limestone and the entrance is a hole with 1 meter wide of its diameter. They provided cemented stairs to reach the whole interior of the cave and lighted naturally by the sun through some holes in the cave including the entrance.

Baclayon Church

“The Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary Parish Church”or  Baclayon Church in Tagbilaran City. A stone church founded the by the Jesuit Priest in 1596 and finished in the year 1727. The church was considered as the oldest Roman Catholic Church and declared as national treasure in the Philippine museum.

Blood Compact Shrine

The historical place in Bohol where in the blood compact or “Sandugo” was conducted. The blood compact ritual is a tribal tradition of the ancient Muslim tribe performed between the Spanish explorer Miguel lopez and Datu Sikatuna to establish their friendship.

Island Hopping in Panglao Island

Another popular tourist destination in bohol located in the southwest of the island of Bohol and east of Cebu.

Panglao Island in Bohol has several small and famous islands like:

Virgin Island – One of the best Islands in Panglao with its longest isle, only few vegetation with no one else living. It takes 15-20 minutes to reach the beautiful Island

Balicasag Island

It is the largest among the other islands in Panglao. The water is very crystal clear with pebble-type of sand. They also have a wide fish sanctuary that is perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling.

Anda, Bohol

This is a perfect summer getaway for family. It is a public white sand beach in the municipality of Anda, Bohol that can be compared to Boracay, with its fine sand and crystal clear water facing the Bohol Sea and ideal place to watch the sunset.
